For discrete home theatre installations, in-ceiling loudspeakers have become very popular. They can offer excellent value for money and the grilles are usually sufficiently hard to spot for them to be acceptable. They can usually be painted to blend with the surroundings anyway.

The more sophisticated models allow the drivers to be tilted internally to effectively focus the sound lower down in the room. A complete 5 or 7 channel package can fill the room with sound with negligible visual impact.

For home theatre you generally add a sub-woofer and, whilst this can be mounted in a wall, or even in-ceiling, we would normally try to find a way to accommodate one of the self-powered free-standing models, tucked out of sight of course.
